CONTEST

MANIFESTHOPE: DC invites you to show your art in Washington, D.C. during the Presidential Inauguration Celebration alongside some of the most celebrated artists today.

Here is how it works:

MANIFESTHOPE: DC and its partners are offering the public an opportunity to submit art in an online contest, with three chances to win. The contest is comprised of three parts. You can make one submission per category, totaling a maximum of three submissions. The three categories are: Health Care Reform, Workers' Rights and The Green Economy. Submission is quick and simple. Just click HERE to submit images of your original artwork. We will be accepting submissions from Monday, December 22nd, 2008 through 11:59 a.m. EDT on Friday, January 9th, 2009.

Of the submitted works, 15 pieces, 5 from each category, will be selected by our panel of acclaimed judges to show at MANIFESTHOPE: DC in Washington, D.C., which will be open from Saturday, January 17th - Monday, January 19th, 2009 for the days preceding the Presidential Inauguration. Selected works will then be shipped over-night by the artists to the MANIFESTHOPE: DC gallery (shipping costs covered by MANIFESTHOPE: DC).

You can submit any medium of art: painting, sculpture, collage - any 2D or 3D creation that uses positive messaging to convey the urgency and importance of encouraging a national dialogue about the contest's three themes. Please use your creative ideas to help capture the energy we have experienced in this momentous campaign! Also, please make sure to read the guidelines of this contest HERE before submitting your work.

Manifest Change - Health Care Reform

In America today, it is a struggle for millions of people to afford the health care they need. The threat of rising health insurance premiums and the prospect of losing coverage altogether has become a constant concern for far too many American families. The employer-based health care system no longer works — radical reform is necessary.

The United States of America is the only industrialized nation without a universal health care system. Not only do we lack universal care, but our social and economic inequalities are directly reflected in access to that care. We can do better than this.

All Americans should have access to quality affordable health care. We urgently need to eliminate economic and racial disparities in our health care system, make it more accessible and affordable, focus on preventative care, update and upgrade our information systems, eliminate waste and encourage people to take responsibility for their own overall wellness.

Manifest Unity - Workers' Rights

The power of a unified grassroots organizing effort helped elect Barack Obama to the Presidency of the United States. Unified people can make amazing things happen. Unified people fought and achieved the 40-hour work week, the 8-hour workday, overtime, sick leave, paid vacation, maternity leave, employer-paid health insurance, safety and health protections and guidelines, fairness in promotions and minimum wages. Together there is nothing we can not achieve.

We work hard. We deserve to be treated with respect and dignity by our employers. Our worth as workers and the value of the services we provide is immeasurable. Together we can ensure that the lives and livelihood of workers and our families remain a top priority for our employers. A strong and united work force can lift this country out of the murky waters and together we can put our economy back on track.

Central to that, the very crux of making these things possible, is the right to organize, efficiently, without employer intimidation and scare tactics. When a majority of workers speak, their will should be recognized.

Manifest Opportunity - The Green Economy

It is within our reach to build an inclusive, "clean and green" economy, strong enough to resolve the ecological crisis while simultaneously lifting millions of people out of poverty. By supporting the creation of "clean and green" jobs and developing the "clean and green" industry we can move away from our dependency on oil and all environmentally damaging products. This momentum will encourage a shift towards utilizing natural, replenishable resources resulting in countless new opportunities and leading the entire country to a safer, healthier future.
